Duisburger Philharmoniker Musicians
CREATING SOUND EXPERIENCES AND LEAVING LASTING IMPRESSIONS
- that is what the 93 musicians of the Duisburger Philharmoniker work for with great enthusiasm. With its 140-year history, the Duisburger Philharmoniker is today one of the most important institutions in the cultural scene of North Rhine-Westphalia. At the center of each season are the 12 Philharmonic Concerts in the Philharmonie Mercatorhalle Duisburg. The orchestra's second home is traditionally the orchestra pit of the Duisburg Theater, a location of the long-standing theater partnership with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf/Duisburg.
As society changes, so does the concert audience. In keeping with the rich, diverse and open urban society in the Ruhr region, the Duisburger Philharmoniker continues to develop innovative concert formats and perform at a wide variety of venues throughout the city. The great commitment within the orchestra is also reflected in the self-curated chamber concert series "Profiles.” In this series the members of the Duisburger Philharmoniker passionately search for leads in the repertoire to make exciting cross-connections with other art forms. Great importance is also attached to historically informed performance practice and the commitment to contemporary music.
The down-to-earth nature of the Ruhr region and the open-heartedness of the Rhinelanders shake hands in Duisburg - this is evident in the closeness between the Duisburger Philharmoniker and its audience, as the 2017 "Audience of the Year" award went to Duisburg. Most recently, the orchestra members attracted national attention when they personally delivered via bicycle their annual program play! to all subscribers' homes in a CO2-neutral manner during the Corona crisis.
For us, being a member of Orchester des Wandels Deutschland means using the visionary power of music to inspire our listeners to protect the climate and the environment, while at the same time actively working for the future of our city.
