Flawless wood - Instruments and their Trees

December 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
Lehmbruck Museum, Duisburg

Large, old forest trees—such as maple, spruce, and pine—hold a fascinating secret: musical instruments are crafted from their wood, just as they are from the wood of trees from distant lands. In this concert, the musicians of the Duisburg Philharmonic share stories about their "instrument trees," perform music on those instruments, and explains the importance of protecting trees and nature to ensure the forest remains a habitat for animals and plants. Following the concert, prize-winners from the *Jugend musiziert* solo vocal competition will perform, instrument makers will showcase their unique craft, and guests are invited to join in on various hands-on activities.
