Water Worlds
April 29, 2023 19:00
Philharmonie Merkatorhalle, Duisburg
“The principle of all things is water; everything is made of water, and everything returns to water.” -Thales of Miletus
Water is omnipresent as an element and force of nature, as a habitat and elixir of life. It awakens dreams and longings in people, but often also anxiety and fear. On this evening, the Duisburger Philharmoniker and General Music Director Axel Kober would like to raise our awareness of the endangered beauty of the seas and rivers and their living creatures. The special role of water in Duisburg also shapes the selection of works in the varied program.
Bathe in the maritime sound waves of Glazunov's “La Mer”, let yourself be carried away by “Siegfried's Rhine Cruise” and be enchanted by Reger's “In the Game of the Waves”. The Duisburg composer Hauke Berheide, from whom a commissioned work is being launched, also proves to be a master. The highlight of the evening is the Water Concerto by Tan Dun - here the water literally becomes a musical instrument!
The second part of the evening program will be as entertaining as it is informative. You will learn first-hand more about Duisburg's hope with hydrogen, the marine ecosystem and how we can protect it. Proceeds from ticket sales support Orchester des Wandels e.V.
