Climate concert with musicians from the Staatsorchester Braunschweig
"This is my creation!" Ludwig van Beethoven is said to have exclaimed at the premiere of his septet, having in mind Joseph Haydn's great oratorio "The Creation", which he had completed a year earlier. Beethoven composed his septet in 1799 in a sunny, summery atmosphere and put a lot of "natural feeling" into it. In fact, it was to become his most popular and most frequently performed work until his death. In the climate concert on July 9, 2022 in the Magnikirche with musicians from the Braunschweig State Orchestra, this "creation" by Beethoven is the programmatic focus and is framed by a serenade for bassoon and string quintet by Jean Françaix and a jazzy piece for clarinet and cello by Svante Henryson.
After the concert, the musicians will have for sale delicious climate-neutral chocolate bars, results a project in which cocoa beans were shipped from the Dominican Republic to Amsterdam by sailboat, processed into chocolate in a solar-powered factory and transported to numerous German cities on cargo bikes. Two musicians from the Staatsorchester brought 400 chocolate bars from the Amsterdam-Berlin tour to Braunschweig on their fully loaded bikes to whet the appetite of the concert audience for climate protection and sustainability.
Free entry, donations welcome. The proceeds from this concert will go to the Madagascar project.
