Gardens of the Future

Staatsoperette Dresden

There isn't just one Strauss! In Johann Strauss's birthday year, the orchestra of the Staatsoperette Dresden is also dedicating a concert to his Bavarian namesake: Richard Strauss presented his first work in Dresden in 1882 with the Serenade in E-flat major, Op. 7, for 13 wind instruments. Now, under the musical direction of chief conductor Michael Ellis Ingram, it forms the musical centerpiece of the season's first Green Box Chamber Concert. The concert will be complemented by a lecture from Dr. Claudius Wecke, head of the gardens department of the State Palaces, Castles and Gardens of Saxony, on the impacts of and strategies for addressing climate change in Saxony's state gardens.
