Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra Musicians

Since 1952, our goal as an orchestra is to perform music for a wide audience with the highest artistic professionalism – first as the Berliner Sinfonie-Orchester, and since 2006 as the Konzerthausorchester Berlin.

Our name reflects our connection with the Konzerthaus Berlin, our concert hall on Gendarmenmarkt, as well as with our city, whose upheavals and changes we have witnessed and participated in as a musical community over several generations: From the new beginning in 1961 under chief conductor Kurt Sanderling after the Berlin Wall was built, to the move into the rebuilt Schauspielhaus on Gendarmenmarkt in 1984, to the decades of upheaval after the fall of the Wall and the Germanreunification. Since the 2023/24 season, our chief conductor has been Joana Mallwitz.

The 21st century is characterised by diversity and digital technology. We are committed to carrying on the cultural heritage of classical music in a way that enables people to participate regardless of their social and geographical background. With passion, commitment and the highest artistic professionalism, we are therefore dedicating ourselves to new formats and educational projects, both analogue and digital, in addition to orchestral concerts and chamber music. In following that goal, we remain open to new forms of presentation, diverse media and channels.


As musicians, we spend our days shaping sound. Now we want to help shape a more sustainable future, too. Joining the Orchester des Wandels means adding our voices (and instruments!) to a movement that believes art can inspire change- not just in concert halls, but in the world around us. So here we are: ready to play our part for the climate, one note at a time.
