Dortmunder Philharmoniker Musicians

Passion, discipline, dedication - these virtues are not only at home on the football field in Dortmund, but also with the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra (Dortmunder Philharmoniker). Since its founding in 1887, the Philharmoniker has played its way into the league of the major German concert and opera orchestras. The orchestra can be heard on the stage of the Dortmund concert house as well as in the orchestra pit of the city's opera house and on important podiums worldwide. Guest performances have taken the orchestra to The Hague, to the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, to the Stephaniensaal in Graz, the Salzburg Festival Hall, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and many more.

Being rooted in their city is particularly important to the Dortmunder Philharmoniker. They are a municipal orchestra and therefore play for everyone - true to their motto "Classic close up". General Music Director Gabriel Feltz, director since the 2013/14 season, and his team attach great importance to program planning. With a diverse and innovatively designed program, all music lovers are invited - and those who wish to become one - to their concerts. The orchestra's CD recordings have received wide acclaim, especially the recordings of symphonies by Gustav Mahler and Sergej Rachmaninoff.

In addition to the regular concert series such as the Philharmonic Concerts, Viennese Classical and Chamber Concerts, the Dortmunder Philharmoniker also offer a wide range of music education programs for children and young people. As part of the "Expedition Klassik" they play in schools, kindergartens and other exciting places in the city. In 2021 the Philharmoniker received the Innovation Award from the German Orchestra Foundation for the educational project "Tiny Music House".
