Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau Musicians

The Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau is one of Saxony-Anhalt's oldest and most prestigious orchestras, based at the beautiful Anhalt Theatre in the Bauhaus city of Dessau. In 2016, we received the Saxony-Anhalt Music Prize and were also awarded the "Best Concert Program of the 2022/23 Season" by the Association of German Music Publishers. Diversity is a core principle at our five-genre venue, as evidenced by our long Wagner tradition and the annual Kurt Weill Festival.

Located between the Mulde River floodplains and the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve, the city of Dessau has experienced devastating flooding over the past two decades. During the drought-stricken summers, the canals and lakes of the extensive parklands of the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm dry up. When the popular lakeside concerts can no longer take place because there's simply no lake left, when ashes float across the stage at open-air concerts because a nearby forest is burning, it is clear that climate change has long since arrived.

With the upcoming 2035 Federal Garden Show in Dessau, the city has the opportunity to become a blueprint for ecological urban transformation and climate adaptation. We want to be a part of this and contribute our resources as we work with local partners to protect the climate, nature, and biodiversity.

We are delighted to now be part of the inspiring "Orchester des Wandels" movement!
