Idyll!?
July 9, 2024 8:00 p.m.
Workshop Stage Pfalztheater KAISERSLAUTERN
A benefit concert hosted by the Friends of the Pfalztheater
Since ancient Greece, the term "idyll" has been used to describe the idea of a peaceful and secure human life in harmony with nature in all its untouched, full splendor. Poets, painters and musicians have immortalized the place of longing, Arcadia, which is an example of this, in numerous works; for example, Alexander Glazunow in his "Idyll" for horn and string orchestra.
The exclamation mark in the title of the concert stands for people's need for security, harmony and peace, even if it is only for brief island moments of idyll. As contemporaries of a present full of wars, crises and catastrophes, we know only too well how important these breaks from everyday life are. Art and culture can create this balance, but - and this is what the question mark in the concert title stands for - cannot and should not hide the fact that there is a need for action. As artists, we distance ourselves from such escapism by volunteering and addressing the issues of the day.
And that's where we come full circle - the Orchester des Wandels initiative is concerned with one of our, if not the biggest, current crisis: climate and nature conservation.
Enjoy music by Glazunov, Tchaikovsky's sextet "Souvenir de Florence", Verdi's string quartet and Pavane and Habanera by Ravel in charming self-arrangements for trumpet and harp on the workshop stage of the Pfalztheater and support the projects of the OdW with us!
