A Multimedia Concert

Climate concert to open the “THINK Future – Sustainability Days” as part of the 25th anniversary of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zollverein, featuring works by Max Richter / Antonio Vivaldi, Arvo Pärt, Benjamin Britten, Béla Bartók, and others.

The Zollverein Coal Mine is both a monument to progress and to the excessive exploitation of fossil resources. With scars of the past, nature is reclaiming the site, while people are transforming it into a forward-looking place of encounter. As part of the Sustainability Days at Zollverein, musicians of Orchester des Wandels uses live music and photographic projections to reveal the fragile diversity of nature and poses the question of the future: What will remain?

The concert is supported by photography by Daniel Häker, which explore what we have already left behind on this planet, what we dream of, and how we might rethink our future. From fanfares and folkloric music to classics such as Vivaldi “recomposed” and contemplative sounds, members of the Essener Philharmoniker and the Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal create musical traces that stretch a line from the past into the future, inviting reflection on the direction we wish to take as a society. Moderator and dramaturge Amelie Lopper explores these questions in conversation with photographer Daniel Häker and Anna Ehlert, Sustainability Officer at the Zollverein Foundation.
