“And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul” - John Muir

The forest has always fascinated and attracted people. It is the living environment of innumerable species, a recreational area and a mystical setting for many fairy tales and legends.

Forests cover four billion hectares of the earth, about a third of the global land surface. That may sound like a lot, but 10,000 years ago it was twice as much. Protecting and maintaining the forest as an ecosystem is one of the concerns of the “Orchester des Wandels" initiative. As a member orchestra of the association of the same name, the musicians of the Duisburg Philharmonic are actively committed to protecting the climate and nature.

The atmospheric program aims to encourage people to open their eyes and ears to the endangered beauty of the forests. The path leads from György Ligeti's shimmering soundscapes into the romantic magical worlds of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Vincent d'Indy; from there it goes to Toru Takemitsu's resounding water kingdom. Edvard Grieg's atmospheric “Morning Mood” releases the audience into the foyer of the Duisburg Theater, where the topic is deepened in discussions and artistic contributions.
